One year after the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) seizure of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State in Sudan, survivors continue to live with the consequences of mass killings, sexual violence, forced displacement and the destruction of essential services. Clear warnings preceded the atrocities, yet civilians were left unprotected.
This briefing brings together testimonies, analysis and calls for action from the commemoration convened by SIHA Network and Amnesty International on 26 October 2026. Drawing on contributions from eyewitnesses, Sudanese human rights defenders, researchers and international justice experts, it examines the continuing impact of atrocities committed in El Fasher and surrounding areas, alongside urgent demands for protection, support and accountability.
Speakers called for urgent action to protect civilians, sustain support for survivors, and hold perpetrators and those enabling the violence accountable. They stressed that justice must also address access to healthcare and education, the restoration of land and property rights, reparations, and the conditions for safe and voluntary return.
We invite you to read the briefing and listen to the testimonies and perspectives shared during the commemoration.
