We are excited to announce the recipients of the 2024 Women at the Frontline Awards!
Organized under the theme, “Championing Women’s Agency through Breaking Barriers and Stereotypes during times of War and Conflict,” this year’s Awards acknowledged individuals and organizations for their significant contributions around mobilizing women’s agency to counter violence against women, overcoming barriers to women’s leadership and participation in decision-making, and promoting economic empowerment in conflict-affected areas, with a focus on Sudan.
Criteria for Nomination
To qualify for nomination, individuals, organizations, and networks demonstrated outstanding efforts in mobilizing women’s agency, leadership, and economic empowerment in conflict-sensitive regions.
Evaluation criteria included the impact of their initiatives, the duration of their commitment to women’s issues, measurable outcomes such as changes in social norms or legal reforms benefiting women, and credible references supporting their achievements.
Nominations were accepted online through a bilingual portal in English and Arabic, ensuring accessibility across diverse communities. A committee rigorously reviewed submissions, shortlisting top candidates based on the strength of their work portfolio and demonstrated impact on advancing women’s rights in challenging environments.
Recipients of 2024 Women at the Frontline Awards
The awards ceremony took place online on July 24, 2024, and was hosted by Ms. Amira Abou-Taleb, Interim Executive Director of Musawah, a global movement working for equality and justice in the Muslim family and family laws.
In her remarks, Amira emphasized the significance of these accolades:
“We are humbled by the courage not only of today’s winners but of all applicants. Your resilience, courage, and truth have inspired us all in light of what is going on in Sudan.”
Individual Category Winners
The Individual Category winners included Gisma Hammad Kuku Kafi and ‘Zee’ Omnia Al-Geniad.
Gisma is a steadfast human rights activist based in Kassala, Sudan. She has organized women’s marches, advocated for peace, and provided essential aid to displaced persons. Reflecting on her recognition, Gisma shared:
“I am overwhelmed and grateful for this honor. It acknowledges my commitment to social work and inspires me, especially amidst the ongoing challenges faced by women in IDP camps in Kassala state.”
Omnia is a dedicated online advocate who has used social media to raise awareness and mobilize resources for Sudanese causes. She commented:
“This award means everything to me. Starting from a simple desire to keep Sudan’s plight visible, it has grown into a platform for advocacy. I am deeply honored to receive this recognition.”
Organization Category Winner
The Darfur Advocacy Group (DAG), a youth-led non-profit organization founded in 2023, received the Organizational Category Award. DAG is dedicated to advocacy, civilian protection, and monitoring human rights violations in Darfur, exerting pressure on authorities and raising public awareness.
Accepting the award, DAG’s founder, Ikhlass Ahmed, remarked:
“This award is a testament to our ongoing fight for human rights. It strengthens our resolve to continue our work, knowing that our voices and sacrifices are valued. This recognition not only honors our efforts but motivates us to pursue justice and peace in Darfur.”
The Women at the Frontline Awards celebrate the resilience and leadership of women’s rights defenders, aiming to inspire broader recognition of their pivotal roles in promoting gender equality in conflict-affected communities. By honoring their efforts, the awards seek to amplify their voices and foster positive change. Special thanks to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their ongoing support, which makes our work, including these awards, possible.

يسرنا أن نعلن عن الفائزات/ين بجائزة المرأة في خط المواجهة ٢٠٢٤!
نُظّمت هذه الجوائز تحت شعار “دعم وكالة المرأة من خلال كسر الحواجز والنماذج النمطية في أوقات الحرب والنزاع”، واحتفت الجائزة هذا العام بالأفراد والمنظمات على إسهاماتهم الكبيرة في تعزيز وكالة المرأة لمكافحة العنف ضد النساء، وتجاوز عقبات قيادة النساء ومشاركتهن في صنع القرار، وتمكينهنّ اقتصاديًّا في المناطق المتأثرة بالنزاعات، بالتركيز على السودان.
معايير الترشيح:
للتأهل للترشيح، يجب أن يكون الأفراد والمنظمات والشبكات قد قدّموا جهودًا متميزة في دعم وكالة المرأة والقيادة والتمكين الاقتصادي في المناطق الحساسة للنزاعات.
تضمنت معايير التقييم تأثير المبادرات، ومدى التزامها بقضايا المرأة، والنتائج القابلة للقياس مثل التغييرات في الأعراف الاجتماعية أو الإصلاحات القانونية المفيدة للمرأة، بالإضافة إلى المراجع الموثوقة.
تم استقبال الترشيحات باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية، لضمان الوصول لمجتمعات متنوّعة؛ من ثمّ قامت لجنة الجائزة بمراجعة دقيقة للمقترحات، وتكوين قائمة قصيرة بأفضل المرشحين/المرشحات بناءً على نماذج عملهم ومدى تأثيرهم في تعزيز حقوق المرأة بالرغم من التحديات الحالية.
الفائزون/ات بجائزة المرأة في خط المواجهة ٢٠٢٤
أقيم حفل توزيع الجوائز عبر الإنترنت في ٢٤ يوليو ٢٠٢٤، وقد تمت مشاركة الحدث من قبل السيدة أميرة أبو طالب، المدير التنفيذي المؤقت لـ “مساواة”، حركة عالمية تعمل من أجل المساواة والعدل في الأسرة المسلمة وقوانين الأسرة.
في تصريحاتها، أكدت أميرة على أهمية هذه الجائزة:
“نحن نشعر بالتواضع أمام شجاعة الفائزين/ات اليوم وكل المتقدمين/ات؛ إن قوتكم/ن وشجاعتكم/ن وصدقكم/ن قد مصدر إلهام لنا جميعًا في ظل ما يحدث في السودان.”
فئة الأفراد – الفائزات
شملت فئة الأفراد قسمة حمد كوكو كافي، و“زي” أمنية الجنيد.
قسمة هي ناشطة حقوقية بولاية كسلا، السودان. نظمت قسمة مسيرات نسائية، ودعت إلى السلام، كما عملت على تقديم المساعدات الأساسية للنازحين والنازحات. وفي تعليقها على التكريم، شاركت قسمة:
“أنا متأثرة وممتنة لهذا التكريم، إنه يعترف بالتزامي بالعمل الاجتماعي ويلهمني، خاصة في ظل التحديات المستمرة التي تواجهها النساء في مخيمات النازحين في ولاية كسلا.”
أمنية هي مدافعة متفانية عبر الإنترنت، استخدمت وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي لرفع الوعي بقضايا السودان ودعم المتضررين من الحرب. تقول أمنية:
“هذه الجائزة تعني الكثير بالنسبة لي، بدأت من رغبة بسيطة في إبقاء معاناة السودان تحت الأنظار، ونمت إلى منصة للمناصرة؛ يشرّفني تلقّي هذا التقدير.”
فئة المنظمات – المجموعة الفائزة
حصلت مجموعة مناصرة دارفور (DAG)، وهي منظمة غير ربحية بقيادة شبابية تأسست في عام ٢٠٢٣، على جائزة فئة المنظمات. تُعنى DAG بقضايا المناصرة وحماية المدنيين ورصد انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان في دارفور، بالإضافة إلى الضغط على السلطات ورفع الوعي العام.
وفي تقبلها للجائزة، علقت مؤسسة DAG، إخلاص أحمد:
“هذه الجائزة دليل على نضالنا المستمر من أجل حقوق الإنسان. إنها تعزز إصرارنا على مواصلة عملنا، علمًا بأن أصواتنا وتضحياتنا محل تقدير. هذا التكريم لا يكرم فقط جهودنا، بل يحفزنا على مواصلة السعي وراء العدالة والسلام في دارفور.”
تحتفي جائزة المرأة في خط المواجهة بصمود وروح القيادة لدى المدافعات والمدافعين عن حقوق النساء، وتهدف لتحفيز الاعتراف بأدوارهم الحيوية في تعزيز المساواة بين الجنسين في المجتمعات المتضررة من النزاعات. من خلال تكريم جهودهن/م، تسعى الجوائز إلى تعزيز أصواتهن/م والدفع قُدمًا بالتغيير الإيجابي.
