In the past few days, the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network and its staff members have been subjected to escalating horrific online attacks and threats orchestrated by social media houses associated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). These attacks blatantly disregard the ongoing reality of sexual violence, including Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV), enforced disappearances, and other gender-based atrocities that have plagued Sudan since April 15, 2023, and have become an undeniable part of the daily lives of women and girls in the country.
In retaliation for SIHA’s numerous statements on these issues, there has been a significant wave of fake news regarding SIHA’s status, which is utterly false. These attacks are a deliberate attempt to silence women, discredit SIHA’s three decades of relentless advocacy, and shake our commitment to justice for victims and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence and gender-based violence. We want to affirm to our partners and our network of civil society that SIHA remains secure, operational, and deeply respected in the spaces where we operate and work throughout the region.
Their brazen actions reflect a dangerous belief in utmost impunity and that they will never be held accountable for their crimes. This is not just an attack on SIHA—it is an assault on the voices of victims, survivors, and women across Sudan who have been subjected to sexual violence and CRSV since 2003 and beyond. These attacks exemplify an entrenched culture of lack of accountability. What has unfolded is a stark reminder that, as women, our safety is threatened simply because we dare to speak out—let alone the horrific reality faced by countless women and girls in Sudan every day.
For more than 20 years, SIHA has been a trusted ally to local civil society organizations, a beacon of hope for women and girls, and a relentless advocate for justice. Our work documenting sexual violence and other atrocities committed across Sudan and specifically in Darfur, in partnership with women’s organizations and human rights groups, has consistently challenged systems of oppression, regimes that condone violence against women, and acts of impunity. Over the years, SIHA has experienced bullying and attacks regarding our transformative work, especially during the Bashir era and afterwards. The current efforts to discredit our work are designed to stoke fear, halt our advocacy, and erode the critical gains made by women’s movements in Sudan and the Horn of Africa. As a network of women’s activists and leaders, we understand our challenges and have always been prepared for this type of backlash.
We, therefore, call on national, regional, and international allies, human rights defenders, and women’s and feminist organizations worldwide to stand with us. We need your solidarity more than ever. —this is not just about SIHA; it is about ensuring that women, survivors of violence, and human rights defenders are not silenced and are entitled to receive the support they deserve. It is about rejecting intimidation and reprisal, holding the perpetrators accountable, and demanding justice for those who suffer in silence.
We urge you to:
- Speak out: Amplify the call for justice and solidarity with women’s rights defenders and women victims of sexual violence facing threats, victims of torture and enforced disappearance, as well as women held captive for sexual slavery and exploitation, other forms of slavery, women sentenced to death without legal process, and families of those women who were randomly executed in Sudan.
- Advocate for Accountability: Demand that international and regional mechanisms hold the RSF and all perpetrators accountable for their crimes, including targeted reprisal and intimidation.
- Support SIHA and the Women Human Rights Defenders: Offer solidarity to ensure the safety and security of those on the front lines of this essential struggle.
We want to thank our friends and colleagues from Sudan and around the region who supported us during these difficult times. We wish to state clearly that these horrifying attacks will not deter us.

دعوة للتضامن: #نساء_السودان_تحت_الهجوم معًا ضد محاولات إسكات أصوات النساء الضحايا والناجيات

منذ عدة أيام تتعرض شبكة صيحة وفريقها لهجوم إعلامي ممنهج وشرس وتهديدات متزايدة تقودها منصات إعلامية ذات صلة بقوات الدعم السريع عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، وذلك بغرض الانتقام من مواقف صيحة بشأن فضح الانتهاكات المريعة ضد النساء ومرتكبيها. وتشمل تلك الحملة سلسلة من الأخبار الزائفة التي تستهدف مصداقيتنا وتسعى لإسكات أصواتنا. إن المُصّدرين لهذه الادعاءات المضللة يعتقدون أن بإمكانهم تقويض ثلاثة عقود من النضال المستمر نحو تحقيق العدالة للضحايا والناجيات من العنف الجنسي المرتبط بالنزاع والعنف القائم على النوع الاجتماعي وتهميش النساء. نحن نؤكد هنا أن شبكة صيحة لنساء القرن الافريقي تواصل عملها بفعالية وتحظى باحترام واسع في جميع مناطق ودول إقليم القرن الإفريقيّ الكبير والسودان.
إن هذه الهجمات ليست فقط استهدافاً لشبكة صيحة، بل هي اعتداء مباشر على أصوات الضحايا والناجيات وعلى النساء في السودان، وهي تعكس بشكل واضح ثقافة الإفلات من العقاب المتجذرة، واعتقاد مرتكبيها أنهم بمنأى عن آليات العدالة. إن ما يحدث هو تذكير مؤلم بأن سلامتنا كنساء مهددة فقط لأننا نجرؤ على الكلام، ناهيك عن النساء اللواتي يعايشن واقع هذه الحرب الوحشية وما يتعرضن له بشكل يومي. لأكثر من ٢٠ عاماً، كانت شبكة صيحة شريكةً قويةً للمجتمع المدني المحلي وركيزة أمل للنساء والفتيات في مختلف أقاليم السودان. عملنا في توثيق جرائم العنف الجنسي والانتهاكات الجسيمة التي ارتكبت ضد النساء والفتيات، خاصة في دارفور، بالتعاون مع المنظمات النسوية والمجموعات الحقوقية، ووقفنا في مواجهة أنظمة القمع وثقافة الإفلات من العقاب. لقد واجهت صيحة على مدار سنوات حملات التشويهٍ والتهديد، بما في ذلك خلال حقبة البشير البائدة وخلال الفترة الانتقالية وما تلاها من انقلاب مشؤوم.
نحن ندرك جيدًا كمجموعة تعمل في مجالات حقوق النساء والتغيير والتحول نحو المساواة والعدالة والسلام أن عملنا ليس بالأمر السهل، كما أننا نعي تبعات المواقف الصلبة بجانب النساء والفتيات والمجتمعات المحلية في السودان. إن الغرض من هذه المحاولات البائسة هو بثّ الخوف، وإيقاف الجهود لمناصرة النساء والفتيات، وتقويض المكاسب التي حققتها الحركات النسوية في السودان.
ندعو حلفاءنا وأصدقاءنا من داخل السودان ومن جيراننا والمدافعين والمدافعات عن حقوق الإنسان والمنظمات في جميع أنحاء العالم للوقوف معنا. نحن بحاجة إلى تضامنكن/م الآن أكثر من أي وقت مضى – القضية ليست فقط عن شبكة صيحة؛ بل هي قضية مقاومة إسكات أصوات النساء والفتيات، والضحايا والناجيات، والمدافعات عن حقوق النساء والإنسان، وحقهن في الحصول على الدعم اللازم والوصول إلى العدالة ومحاسبة الجناة. نحن ندعوكن/م إلى: ١- رفع الصوت والتضامن مع ضحايا العنف الجنسي والاختفاء القسري، والاسترقاق والاستغلال الجنسيّ، والتعذيب، والمعتقلات تعسفيًّا، والمحكوم عليهنّ بالإعدام دون مسوّغات قانونية، وأسر النساء اللواتي تمّت تصفيتهنّ جسديًّا والمدافعات عن حقوق النساء وحقوق الإنسان.
٢- المطالبة بتفعيل آليات المحاسبة الدولية ومعاقبة الجناة على جرائمهم والتي تشمل استهداف وترهيب المدافعين والمدافعات عن حقوق الإنسان، والتضامن معهم/ن وبذل الجهود اللازمة لضمان سلامتهن/م.
٣- المشاركة في تحدي والكشف عن السرديات التي تنكر أو تبرر للعنف ضد النساء والفتيات، أو تستخدمه للتكسّب السياسي.
نحن نشكر كل من وقفن ووقفوا معنا وكل من أعلن التضامن بشجاعة ونؤكد في شبكة صيحة أن هذه الهجمات لن تثنينا، وسنستمر في التعاون مع المجموعات النسوية والحقوقية في رفع أصوات النساء والفتيات، الضحايا والناجيات، وحماية حقوقهن، والمطالبة بالعدالة.
