The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa is pleased to announce and welcome its new board members. The members were elected at the just concluded General Assembly that was held on the 10th and 11th May 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Zahra Mohamed Ahmed from Somali Women Development Center was elected Chair of the Board and Peace Kyamureku from Uganda as her Vice Chair. Members of the board include; Linda Ferdinand Hussein Gelego from South Sudan, Kamilia Kuku from Sudan, Azeb Kelemework from Ethiopia and Amina Warsame from Somaliland. The advisors to the board are; Asmahan Hassan from Somaliland, Dolly Anek Odwong from South Sudan, Sidiga Washi from Sudan, Saba Gebremedhin from Ethiopia, Elagak Abdel Monim from Sudan and Albaqir Mukhtar special expert advisor from Sudan. The board assumed office as of 11th May 2013.
The General Assembly brought together some of SIHA members representing the countries SIHA works in, that is; Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Somaliland and Uganda. A representative to the Board from Djibouti will be elected soon as there was no representative at the board from Djibouti. The General Assembly is composed of all SIHA registered members and meets every two years while the board meets once a year. The board members are elected by the General Assembly and remain in office for two years cycle.
Besides election of a new board, a two years strategy was developed during the assembly, on which SIHA will continue working in those countries. It is believed that this will guide SIHA to better respond to the needs of its members as well as being more strategic in its work.
