March 6, 2013

Somali court of appeal overturned the sentence against Lul Ali Isman who had alleged that she had been raped by Somali government security forces in one of the IDP camps in Mogadishu. However, the sentence against Abdiaziz Abdinur Ibrahim, the journalist who interviewed Isman and tried to reveal the story, was only reduced to six months.

On 5th February 2013, Lul Ali Isman, and Abdiaziz Abdinur were convicted and sentenced to a year in jail. Both Isman and Abdiaziz were accused of insulting a government body and making false claims despite the story never being published.
